DESCRIPTION:The HELCOM Stakeholder Conference 2025\, a one-day online event dedicated to discussing hazardous substances in the Baltic Sea\, will take place on 31 March 2025\, from 10:00 to 16:00 EEST. Under the theme of the ‘One Baltic’ approach\, the conference will explore the latest advancements in applying a holistic approach to managing hazardous substances to ensure a cleaner and healthier Baltic Sea. \nThe event is open to everyone\, but pre-registration is required. Interested participants can register by 27 March 2025 here. \nThe conference aims to bring together stakeholders from HELCOM Contracting Parties\, industry representatives\, NGOs\, international organizations\, civil society groups\, and other interested individuals to discuss key actions supporting the Baltic Sea Action Plan (BSAP) goal: ‘A Baltic Sea unaffected by hazardous substances’. \nThe discussions will focus on implementing BSAP actions and the upcoming Regional Action Plan on Hazardous Substances (RAP HAZ)\, set to be finalized in 2025. As part of this effort\, the project has launched a series of Science Policy Dialogue Think Tanks. The main objective of MSP4BIO Science Policy Dialogue Think Tanks is to co-develop\, in collaboration with projects linked to MSP4BIO\, a set of key solutions to improve the integration of biodiversity into Maritime Spatial Planning and to achieve validation through the engagement with policy actors. The Think Tanks bring together experts\, scientists\, and policymakers at both the EU and regional seas levels to co-develop innovative solutions for incorporating biodiversity into MSP.

DESCRIPTION:V MED-MSP-CoP Webinar: “MSP4BIO Science-Policy Dialogue Think Tank On The Co-Development Of Policy Solutions For A Better Integration Of Biodiversity Conservation In MSP And Sectoral Policies” \nThe V MED-MSP-CoP Webinar\, titled “MSP4BIO Science-Policy Dialogue Think Tank On The Co-Development Of Policy Solutions For A Better Integration Of Biodiversity Conservation In MSP And Sectoral Policies\,” will be conducted online on Monday\, 24th June 2024\, from 11:00 to 12:15 CET. \nAbout the Webinar \nThe Horizon Europe MSP4BIO project focuses on science-based maritime spatial planning to safeguard and restore biodiversity within a coherent European MPA network. This project supports the implementation of the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030\, the Convention on Biological Diversity Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework\, and the European Green Deal. MSP4BIO aims to develop an integrated and flexible ecological-socio-economic management framework\, validated across six test sites in Europe. The project builds on ongoing MSP and MPA processes at various scales—from local to sea basin levels—and supports the effective management of future protected areas by improving and validating criteria for MPA prioritization\, integrating trade-off scenario analysis\, enhancing the knowledge base for reviewing and evaluating existing maritime spatial plans\, and providing recommendations on improving sectoral policies to better mainstream biodiversity considerations at EU\, sea-basin\, and national levels. \nTo co-develop key policy recommendations\, MSP4BIO established a Science-Policy Dialogue Think Tank. This think tank collaborates with linked projects to jointly communicate scientific outputs and achieve policy solutions validation through engagement with policy actors. Initially involving relevant experts and scientists\, the Think Tank later included policy stakeholders at the EU and regional seas levels. \nScience Policy Dialogue Think Tank Stakeholders \n\nMSP4BIO Project Partners\nScientific Representatives from sister projects and initiatives\nPolicymakers\nEuropean Policy Actors (DG MARE\, DG ENV) and Regional Authorities (BARCON\, HELCOM\, OSPAR\, BSC)\n\nTwo Think Tank meetings have been held so far\, initiating the co-creation process of policy solutions based on the outcomes of the MSP4BIO Report on key barriers and levers for policy coherence\, along with other analyses produced by related projects. \nIn this webinar\, MSP4BIO will present to the NW-MED MSP CoP the work done in the Think Tank\, focusing on the results of the policy coherence analysis relevant to the Mediterranean at regional and national levels. SUMMARY:2nd Mission Arena by Blue Mission BANOS
DESCRIPTION:Blue Mission BANOS’ 2nd Mission Arena will take place on 25-26 April in Riga\, Latvia. \nThe event will inspire\, engage and support a wide range of stakeholders across the Baltic and North Sea in making the Blue Economy carbon-neutral & circular by 2030\, in line with EU Mission Ocean’s objectives. \nThrough a wide range of interactive sessions\, workshops\, pitching events\, demonstrations and study visits\, the 1st Mission Arena will serve as a laboratory to (1) pave the way to innovative solutions\, (2) showcase local\, regional and national approaches to create a transition to a circular\, carbon-neutral blue economy in the Baltic and North Sea\, and (3) provide concrete pathways to Mission Ocean’s success in the area. \nThe 2nd Mission Arena will focus on the local and regional communities of Estonia\, Latvia\, Lithuania\, Finland and Sweden.

SUMMARY:1st DOORS Stakeholder Conference 
DESCRIPTION:The ‘Developing Optimal and Open Research Support for the Black Sea’ project is hosting the Black Sea Futures: Science\, Prosperity\, and People Conference from 23-24 April 2024 in Bucharest\, Romania. \n\n\n\nThis event will feature inspiring high-level panels\, interactive co-design workshops\, and a Black Sea research and innovation showcase\, including an MSP4BIO poster on “Gap analysis and needs assessment to sustain a better integration of biodiversity considerations in Maritime Spatial Planning for Western Black Sea Pilot Site“. \n\n\n\nParticipants are invited to attend on-site (no on-line participation will be possible). The conference will offer a unique forum to exchange views on the challenges and opportunities in the sustainable blue economy sectors\, the development of the Digital Twin Ocean\, training and capacity enhancement in the Black Sea\, Ocean Literacy\, and science-policy interface.

SUMMARY:Protect BALTIC - Baltic Stakeholder Conference
DESCRIPTION:The upcoming Baltic Stakeholder Conference 2024 (BSC2024) is scheduled for 29 February 2024 and will be the inaugural stakeholder event for the PROTECT BALTIC project. The conference will be conducted in a hybrid format\, enabling both in-person and online attendance\, with the in-person component being held at: \nHANAHOLMEN Swedish-Finnish Cultural Centre\nHanasaarenranta 5\nFI-02100 Espoo \nAlongside the main conference\, a parallel online youth event will be held to actively engage young individuals in discussions addressing the challenges being faced by the Baltic Sea.

Through interactive sessions\, workshops\, pitching events\, demonstrations and networking\, the 1st Mission Arena will serve as a laboratory to: \n\nPave the way for innovative blue economy solutions in the Western Baltic\nShowcase local\, regional and national approaches for a circular\, carbon-neutral blue economy\nProvide concrete pathways for the EU’s Mission Ocean’s success\n\n  \nSolutions from the blue economy such as blue food\, bioresources\, biotechnology\, low-trophic aquaculture & products\, and multi-use will be highlighted as ways to address some of our world’s greatest challenges. \nExisting technical solutions\, innovation gaps\, funding and business models\, as well as regulation and decision making processes will be explored to provide attendants with new knowledge\, action paths and ideas. \n  \nThe Western Baltic covering Germany (Western Baltic); Denmark (East)\, Sweden (West/South) and Norway (South) will be in the focus of the event. All stakeholders active or interested in the Baltic and North Sea are welcome to join us. DESCRIPTION:The Directorate General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the European Commission (DG MARE) and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO) are jointly organising the 3rd edition of the International Conference on Marine/Maritime Spatial Planning. \nThis conference aims to assess the state-of-the-art implementation of MSP and discuss challenges and opportunities to achieve the MSProadmap priority areas and target (cover at least 1/3 of the global maritime areas under national jurisdictions with marine spatial plans by 2030). \nThis 3rd edition will be structured around thematic panels.
