SUMMARY:MSP4BIO Webinar: Science-Policy Dialogue Think Tank On The Co-Development Of Policy Solutions For A Better Integration Of Biodiversity Conservation In MSP And Sectoral Policies
DESCRIPTION:V MED-MSP-CoP Webinar: “MSP4BIO Science-Policy Dialogue Think Tank On The Co-Development Of Policy Solutions For A Better Integration Of Biodiversity Conservation In MSP And Sectoral Policies” \nThe V MED-MSP-CoP Webinar\, titled “MSP4BIO Science-Policy Dialogue Think Tank On The Co-Development Of Policy Solutions For A Better Integration Of Biodiversity Conservation In MSP And Sectoral Policies\,” will be conducted online on Monday\, 24th June 2024\, from 11:00 to 12:15 CET. \nAbout the Webinar \nThe Horizon Europe MSP4BIO project focuses on science-based maritime spatial planning to safeguard and restore biodiversity within a coherent European MPA network. This project supports the implementation of the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030\, the Convention on Biological Diversity Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework\, and the European Green Deal. MSP4BIO aims to develop an integrated and flexible ecological-socio-economic management framework\, validated across six test sites in Europe. The project builds on ongoing MSP and MPA processes at various scales—from local to sea basin levels—and supports the effective management of future protected areas by improving and validating criteria for MPA prioritization\, integrating trade-off scenario analysis\, enhancing the knowledge base for reviewing and evaluating existing maritime spatial plans\, and providing recommendations on improving sectoral policies to better mainstream biodiversity considerations at EU\, sea-basin\, and national levels. \nTo co-develop key policy recommendations\, MSP4BIO established a Science-Policy Dialogue Think Tank. This think tank collaborates with linked projects to jointly communicate scientific outputs and achieve policy solutions validation through engagement with policy actors. Initially involving relevant experts and scientists\, the Think Tank later included policy stakeholders at the EU and regional seas levels. \nScience Policy Dialogue Think Tank Stakeholders \n\nMSP4BIO Project Partners\nScientific Representatives from sister projects and initiatives\nPolicymakers\nEuropean Policy Actors (DG MARE\, DG ENV) and Regional Authorities (BARCON\, HELCOM\, OSPAR\, BSC)\n\nTwo Think Tank meetings have been held so far\, initiating the co-creation process of policy solutions based on the outcomes of the MSP4BIO Report on key barriers and levers for policy coherence\, along with other analyses produced by related projects. \nIn this webinar\, MSP4BIO will present to the NW-MED MSP CoP the work done in the Think Tank\, focusing on the results of the policy coherence analysis relevant to the Mediterranean at regional and national levels. The discussion will prioritize the identified policy solutions with CoP members. \nRegistration and Agenda \nRegistration for the webinar is now open Here.\nThe webinar agenda is available Here.

SUMMARY:Workshop on Trade-Off Methodology for MPA & Conservation design
DESCRIPTION:Online Workshop on Trade-Off Methodology: “Exploring the Trade-offs methodology for MPA/Conservation design\, based on MSP4BIO’s Deliverable 4.3” \nAn online workshop on the Trade-Off Methodology\, based on MSP4BIO’s Deliverable 4.3\, will be held to advance the understanding and application of sustainable marine conservation practices. This event is a significant component of the MSP4BIO project\, targeting professionals and stakeholders involved in the sustainable management of marine spaces. \nWorkshop Details \n\nDate: June 25\, 2024\nTime: 2-3 PM CET\n\nWorkshop Overview \nThe focus of Deliverable 4.3\, “Trade-offs Method for Protection and Restoration in MSP-ESE3\,” is to enhance the management of marine spaces and safeguard ecosystem services through a participatory integrated trade-off scenario. This approach effectively balances protection and restoration efforts\, making it crucial for the design of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). \nKey Highlights \n\nGuidelines for Trade-Off Methodology: The methodology’s application to MPA design will be explained\, emphasizing the assessment and negotiation of the impacts of various actions and strategies on marine areas.\nHuman Activities and Participatory Mapping: The workshop will address the complex relationships between human activities and demonstrate how participatory mapping can facilitate the exploration of negotiation solutions.\nPractical Tools and Frameworks: Information will be provided on how trade-off scenarios are integrated into practical decision-making tools for marine resource management.\n\nWorkshop Content \n\nPreparation: Insights into the initial steps required for applying the trade-off methodology will be provided.\nCollaborative Engagement: Methods for engaging stakeholders in the development of integrated trade-off scenarios will be covered.\nPost-Meeting Actions: Steps necessary to finalize and implement the scenarios into practical frameworks will be outlined.\n\nLearning Outcomes \nParticipants will gain a comprehensive understanding of creating integrated scenarios\, providing valuable knowledge for evaluating and negotiating the outcomes of different actions and strategies in marine areas. This workshop embodies the collaborative spirit and addresses the dynamic challenges of maritime management. \nRegistration Information \nTo participate in this informative event\, registration can be completed here. \n
