On 15 May 2025, MSP4BIO brought together marine planners and ocean enthusiasts for a one-hour webinar with Dr. Will McClintock, who guided us through the capabilities of SeaSketch, the open-source participatory mapping platform at the heart of our project. Over the course of the session, attendees learned how to visualize both vector and raster data with custom styling, sketch and evaluate prospective Marine Protected Areas, and deploy map-based surveys to gather spatial use information directly from stakeholders.
Dr. McClintock also demonstrated how SeaSketch’s scenario evaluation tools can accelerate consensus-building by comparing zoning options against ecological and human-use metrics, and he showcased the platform’s open API for creating tailored geoprocessing workflows and automated reports. By the end of the session, participants had seen firsthand how SeaSketch streamlines decision-making and fosters collaborative marine spatial planning.
